Staff struggle in despite nearly an inch of snow

Christmas came at last to Crewe this week as the Cheshire countryside slumbered beneath the deepest snow since 1984 which was the deepest snow since 1979, beating the previous deepest snow (recorded in 1968) by over three sixteenths of an inch. None of which compares to The Great Blizzard of ’53 when nearly three inches of snow fell in one week bringing the country to a grinding snowy halt.
A snowfall of four and one quarter inches was recorded in 1943 by meteorology students at nearby Keele University but it was later discounted as the University wasn’t founded until 1949.
MD Chris Furness praised his staff for their tenacity in battling winds of up to five miles an hour in their bid to get into work on time. He told us: “I can’t believe it, some of our staff battled winds of up to five miles an hour in their bid to get into work on time.”
